Just a quick post re Wordpress. I have upgraded to 2.71. now which allows automatic upgrading of versions and plugins from here on it. Very handy indeed. However getting this working was not without it’s woes (some still unresolved here) but thanks to Tara in Blacknight it is now up and running. I needed to move on up to PHP5 and all seems ok now. One small snag though is that the posts (I re-imported them from backup I done earlier) from the last year (very little of them anyway admittedly) are not showing up in the normal page view. They are here though in the archive and in the sidebar over yonder. Anyway, it’s funny that it has jumped back almost a year to the day and my last post was concerning a Tara too!
Anyway, last years Paddy’s Day was spent up at Tara and it gonna be the same again this year. The documentary project has been on standby for the most part but there have been many developments in the last year that play an important part in the story. The major one being the huge economic slump worldwide and the unravelling of the incompetence and corruption that has prevailed in this country for the last decade under the guise of the Celtic Tiger. This does all fit in with the wider story I am attempting to tell with the Tara Saga story and it is sad the a lot of my predictions have come through. I’m not gleefully saying “I told you so” but there are interesting times ahead to say the least, where questions raised by groups involved with campaigns such as Rossport and Tara are going to be asked by the wider public.
It is a time though for reflection and change and hopefully people will have the time to concentrate on the things that matter. All the rest is irrelevant.

Well, there’s not been any updates in a while, I haven’t had the time. Plenty to write about, so expect a backlog of blogs soon. Just testing out Wordpress 2.5 here with this post as I am building a site for a client using good old Wordpress as the CMS. Some of the plugins I had selected for it don’t work after the upgrade so it’s troubleshooting time now. Perhaps I should have left it the way it was, but there are some new features, such as the better way to add media which is more user-friendly and like another plugin I had previously used.
So anyway I will update here when I can. I have some nice half written articles which I will finish off soon and get them up here. Some may be stale bread now as they relate to current affairs but may put them up anyway.
Ciao for now.

Ok, so in a semi regular feature from here on on I will post some links to cool stuff of interest that I bump into around the web that I etiher don’t have time to blog about, is covered elsewhere better anyway or just needs no explanation. Generally this is what I used Stumbleupon for anyway so some of my stumbles will be repeated here. The linkage posts are aside from the asides over on the side there too!
Previews : Firefox Extension so you can see the page these links link to without leave the page. Essential app from the makers of PicLens, the image browsing cool tool for Firefox, as previously mentioned in the Asides.
Tell Rall’s Cartoons…. some great political commentary on the run up to the US elections.
Animated John Lennon …. film made from interview by kid in the bed-in period.
Chris Anderson’s Free article from his forthcoming Free book (not really free!)… essential reading.
A critical response to that article
I will do a proper post on the above at a later date. I have a lot of thought in that area. I could write a book about it! In a nutshell, I agree with Chris but there needs to be building block put in place to ensure that content creators can earn at least on par with service providers.
Cory Doctorow writes about Intellectual Property and it’s drawbacks
Mini projector : the Future is now..
Google Sites is released providing an excellent way for groups of people to communicate and collaborate in a wiki format about work or education over and intranet or the internet.
A technophiles bed!

Well, I’ve been tipping away at this blog for the last few weeks and haven’t made it public yet (in that I haven’t told anybody about it per-say), so I’m just posting some random bits and pieces until I can see some structure in it.
Content wise, it’s going to be about everything that interests me and I aim to keep it all positive as much as possible. I will be filling in the blanks back as far as January of this year, but the official start is from June. I hope to have the main ITISON site back up by the end of July. I feel if I write that here, then I will get it done! It’s just going to have some examples of work and the usual things you need to have on a business website.
Not that I need reminding but I’ve been going though my gigabytes of files and trying to put some order on them. I back stuff up regularly, but this means the files are not readily accessible. I use a program called CDFinder to catalogue all backed up cds an dvds so that it’s easy to find files without loading the discs. Its a very handy program, but I also need to keep a lot of stuff on external drives so I can have easy access to them. My total personal storage is well over 2TB (terrabytes) and although this includes a couple of damaged Lacie drives which I avoid using, it is still a hugh amount. Video is by far the biggest occupant of drive space and I like to keep all my video work on dedicated drives. But for some projects it just spills over and sometime things get lost (for a while). So as well as my usual Inbox / Outbox file management systems I would like to use something like smart tagging to find files. Automator allows adding annotations to any file Quicktime will play. This is very handy but it doesn’t allow you to add words in the Keywords dialogue box. What I would like is an application that is somewhere between iVideo and Postmap for better organising of video files. Anyway enough on that. My favourite new app is Journler which is simply an amazing organisational tool. From now on, clippings, pdfs and other research items will go in here for better sorting of thought and ideas. This is a great application and is free for personal use. I purchased it because I feel it is an essential tool for my both in business and in life. Try it now from here. (Oh, it is a Mac app and let it be known that most software I review here is for Mac unless stated)
Here is something I found to remind me to get a certain project finished. It was started a long time ago but will be worth while when it is complete. Although it is a big project the main reason it’s still in progress is that so many other things have needed my attention beforehand. Anyway its coming soon enough and I will add some preview clips up here in a few days.
